National Writing Contest For Grades 4, 5 And 6

January 6 to February 21, 2020

We are inviting local schools & groups to check out Habitat for Humanity & GenWorth’s  ‘The Meaning of Home’ contest again this year.  It runs from January 6, 2020 to February 21, 2020, with teacher pre registration going on NOW! The program and contest invites Grades 4, 5 and 6 students from across Canada to submit a written poem or short essay explaining what home means to them for a chance to direct $30,000 grant (each grade) to a local Habitat for Humanity build of their choice – hopefully DAUPHIN J. Plus a class pizza party and I-pad. There are also 9 runner up prizes (3/grade) of a $10000 grant each - toward a local Habitat build. Plus a tablet and pizza party for their class. We are asking schools and groups to incorporate this into their ongoing programming.  The Meaning of Home contest offers a unique and meaningful way to get students involved in the creative writing process. The goal is to teach students about the importance of giving back to the community and foster their active participation as world citizens. Of which, the Schools do a tremendous job for its members, families and communities.

$10 per essay will be generously donated by the contest’s founding sponsor, Genworth Canada and award sponsors Revera Inc. and the Silver Hotel Group to your local Habitat for Humanity for every contest entry submitted by students in their region! That means that your classroom participation is helping Canadian families’ access safe, decent and affordable homes that they pay for with a no down payment, interest-free affordable mortgage.  It is a WIN/WIN!

In addition to the NATIONAL contest we are introducing a local contest as well.  The Dauphin & District Chamber of Commerce along with Riehl Security Solutions have donated $200 in local Chamber bucks!  We will be randomly awarding $25 chamber bucks to 4 lucky participating students.  AND 4 random draws of $25 chamber bucks to those classrooms with 75%+ participation rate.  FYI teachers we will be asking you for the stats once the contest closes.

Thanks so much for your consideration in this easy, yet meaningful contest, that will help positively impact our community. We hope to make it out to the local schools in the new year to help support your efforts.  If you would like to coordinate something like this – please let us know. Feel free to share with your other counterparts in our area… and beyond!
